I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will
I will love You, O Lord, my strength
David is the only man in the Bible of whom God said “a man after my own heart.” David was the youngest son of Jesse and he was described handsome and we know from the Bible that he was also a great musician.
He wrote most of the book of Psalms and when reading through, you see a man unafraid to reveal himself to God. Whether in times of joy or sadness or after the loss of a child or even after committing a sin; we find David always going back to God.
Looking at David through human eyes, you’ll see a man that lied, compromised, murdered and committed adultery and you wonder what was it that God saw in him to choose him as king over Israel and to bring about the salvation of humanity through his lineage.
David was so favoured that God told him that a descendant of his would always be king in Israel and now we see Jesus, the Son of David as king forever.
You might ask, was God not concerned with David’s morals?
David sinned a lot and in very grievous ways but he was wounded within himself whenever he sinned against God. I believe David was immature and a bit weak but it was his heart that God loved; unlike Saul that is known to be rebellious, David wanted God even with all his weaknesses and moral shortcoming.
What am I saying today?
We all mess up in spectacular ways and when we do, we hide from God because we feel unclean before Him. But who can cleanse himself from sin – no one. We still have to go back to God and appropriate the blood of Jesus that is able to purge us completely.
Our relationship with God is not based on morality rather on the sacrifice of Jesus.
- Have you ever done something that you felt was so wrong that you thought God must not be able to stand my sight?
- Have you ever written someone off because you thought they could not possibly be Christians because of the way they behave?
